Intended for

Project managers, site managers and supervisors, as well as proprietors of smaller construction companies. We are also seeing an increasing number of client-based personnel benefiting from the course, increasing their understanding of the obligations of clients and contractors.

Aims and Objectives

The course aims to give the managers in construction an understanding of their responsibilities and accountability for site safety, health and welfare.

The SMSTS course helps managers and supervisors to:
• Manage health and safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions and within the context of their management or supervisory role
• Develop an understanding of responsibilities and accountability for site health, safety and welfare
• Recognise a safe site is efficient, economical and productive.

Course content

The course covers The Health and Safety at Work Act and the regulations relevant to the construction industry. It includes site set-up, CDM, the principles of preparing risk assessments/method statements for many site operations and disciplines. Recent changes in accepted working practices are explored.
