Aims and objectives

The Asbestos Awareness course aims to provide delegates with:
• A raised awareness of asbestos products in buildings in a refurbishment/maintenance environment in order to take the appropriate precautions against the hazards it creates when it is encountered.
The objective is to enable the delegates to become:
• aware of the requirements of the law on asbestos.
• aware of the risks and precautions related to work in locations where asbestos containing materials may be found

Course content

The course covers asbestos legal requirements, asbestos hazards, health risks, identifying potential asbestos containing materials and precautions in the presence of asbestos.

Intended for

Operatives and supervisors who may encounter asbestos as part of their daily work routine.

Asbestos remains the single greatest cause of work related death in the UK.

Many buildings have and will continue to have for the foreseeable future, asbestos products within them. The hazard posed by this once highly popular material will therefore remain significant for today’s workforce. The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 require mandatory training for anyone who is liable to be exposed to asbestos whilst at work. This obviously includes those persons actively involved in asbestos removal but it equally applies to maintenance workers and anyone else who may encounter it as part of their work. For these people, forewarned is forearmed and knowledge of the risks and where it may be encountered form a vital part of their protection.
