CDM for Designers

Aims and objectives

The CDM for Designers course aims to provide delegates with:
• A working understanding of the legal requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 including clarifying the boundaries of the designers' role.
• The ability to carry out meaningful design risk assessment
• The ability to provide useful information to other parties
All of this is combined with the objective of enabling the delegate to fully contribute to the effective management of a project’s safety.

Course content

The course covers designers' responsibilities, design risk assessment, providing information, co-operation and co-ordination. This course also provides a legal overview.

Intended for

Those defined as designers by the CDM regulations.

Why choose this course?

Designers are viewed as being in a unique position to reduce the risks which arise during construction work and beyond, since their earliest decisions fundamentally affect that work. At each stage of design, designers can make a significant contribution by identifying and eliminating hazards and where not possible, reducing likely risks from those hazards. Thinking about the health and safety of those who will construct and maintain should not be an onerous duty. However it does require the designer to be able to clearly communicate and will further require the designer to co-operate and co-ordinate with other parties if the project is to be successful. The designer who fully understands the responsibilities of not only their role but that of the other parties involved in a project is at an advantage.
