Fire Warden
Aims and objectives
This course aims to give employees, chosen to act as Fire Wardens, a detailed understanding of their role, together with the procedures to be adopted for ensuring effective evacuation of people and searching of designated areas in a fire/emergency incident. The course will also give theoretical training on how to select and correctly use fire extinguishers/fire blankets.
On successful completion of this course delegates should be able to:
• Act in a marshalling role in the event of a fire/emergency incident, aiding in the correct and timely evacuation of the workplace
• Identify fire hazards in the workplace
• Actively participate in maintaining day-to-day fire safety standards within the workplace
• Safely search chosen work areas in the event of a fire/emergency situation ensuring complete evacuation
• Liaise effectively with members of the site management and fire emergency services
Course content
This course covers:
• National overview
• Fire damage, financial costs, business disruption and human costs
• Identifying workplace fire hazards and how to remove them
• Fire safety procedures and equipment
• Fire drills, fire detection and alarm, training, extinguishers, signage
• Identification and use of fire extinguishers and fire blankets
• Co-ordination and marshalling of people during an evacuation
• Emergency equipment including first aid
• Sweeping work areas safely
• Movement of people
• Reporting lost or injured people
• Incident information, missing persons, injured persons.

This course is intended for those persons who have volunteered to act as Fire Wardens, who will aid in the safe and timely evacuation of people in the event of a fire/emergency situation.
