Aims and objectives
The ABC Health and Safety Training Course is designed to ensure all staff receive essential health and safety training in the key subjects of Fire Safety and Awareness, Manual Handling and Computer Safety.
Attendance on the course will enable delegates to:
• Identify fire hazards and their potential risks in the workplace
• Actively participate in maintaining day-to-day fire safety standards within the
workplace by improving housekeeping standards and hazard reporting
• Take appropriate action in the event of a fire emergency
• Identify different types of fire extinguishers and fire blankets
• Demonstrate the correct emergency evacuation procedure for their workplace
• Explain why manual handling is an important health and safety issue
• Outline the factors that can lead to injury from manual handling operations
and the importance of reporting relevant health conditions
• Be aware of the risks and precautions related to manual handling
• Demonstrate correct lifting and carrying techniques
• Develop the skills required to set up and maintain a safe workstation
• Identify the hazards that can cause injury when using computers and other workstation
Course content
The course covers the basics of risk assessment in the fire, manual handling and computer safety disciplines, with the emphasis on ensuring delegates are fully conversant with the benefits of this process to their day-today operations. It includes a general awareness of fire-fighting equipment, signage, access routes, safe lifting techniques, minimizing risks through mechanising innovations. The on-line computer safety course includes essentials such as how to correctly set up your workstation to avoid injury as well as looking at the hazards and risks you face while using the equipment, including seating and posture, using a mouse, and suitable screen distances.
